For decades, female characters in Broadway musicals have belted their way into the American psyche. In this multi-faceted discussion, Stacy Wolf interviews Wicked writer Winnie Holzman and others, digging into the creation and interpretation of this Tony Award-winning musical and hit film.
Stacy Wolf is Professor of Theater & American Studies at Princeton University. She is the author of A Problem Like Maria: Gender and Sexuality in the American Musical; Changed for Good: A Feminist History of the Broadway Musical; and Beyond Broadway: The Pleasure and Promise of Musical Theatre Across America. She is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship and the 2024 Distinguished Scholar Award from the American Society for Theatre Research.
